The Overworld and the Nether relate by 8:1: one Nether block equals eight Overworld blocks, so a Nether portal belongs at your Overworld X and Z divided by eight. This tool gives the converted coordinate, the chunk it falls in, and a reminder of the ratio. Enter one coordinate per line (`x z` or `x y z`), separated by spaces or commas.

Features

  • Both directions, Overworld and Nether, at 8:1
  • The corresponding chunk (⌊coordinate ÷ 16⌋)
  • A portal ratio reminder (8:1, not 16:1)
  • Accepts `x z` and `x y z`, spaces or commas
  • Y stays 1:1 and is not converted
  • Several coordinates at once, one per line
  • A distance-only mode when you just need the range

How to use

  1. Choose Overworld → Nether (or the reverse) under Direction
  2. Type one coordinate per line, for example `100 200`
  3. The converted coordinate and chunk appear immediately
  4. Switch to Distance only to get a distance from the origin

FAQ

Why 8:1 and not 16:1?
The horizontal ratio is 8:1 (one Nether block equals eight Overworld blocks). 16 is the chunk size (a chunk is 16 by 16 blocks) and has nothing to do with portal placement. Treating 16 as the ratio sends the portal sixteen times too far, and nothing complains.
Should the coordinate be rounded?
In game a coordinate is a whole block; it is shown to one decimal here because dividing by eight rarely lands on an integer. Round before placing a portal, or the Overworld-to-Nether round trip drifts a little each time.
What about the Y axis?
Y is not scaled — Overworld and Nether height correspond 1:1. So in an `x y z` input only x and z change; y is carried through unchanged.
