Get the straight-line and grid distance (Manhattan — walking only along X and Z, never cutting a corner) between two points, then an estimated travel time for your method. Speeds are in blocks per second (that is, metres per second): walking 4.317, sprinting 5.612, minecart 8, elytra about 33 — elytra is the only three-digit figure, and dropping a power of ten turns a long flight into ten times the time. Height and a Swiftness potion level (walking and sprinting only) are optional.

Features

  • Straight-line and grid (Manhattan) distance
  • Toggle whether height is included (3D)
  • Six methods: walk, sprint, elytra, boat, horse, minecart
  • Swiftness potion level (+20% per level, walking and sprinting)
  • Real time and the equivalent in game days
  • Several point pairs at once

How to use

  1. Write `x1 z1 -> x2 z2` per line (six coordinates to include height)
  2. Pick a method and whether height counts
  3. The distances and travel time appear immediately
  4. Add a Swiftness level if you are using potions

FAQ

How fast is walking, exactly?
4.317 blocks per second (metres per second), and sprinting is 5.612. Those two are single digits; minecarts and boats are 8 and elytra about 33 — elytra is the only three-digit one. Treating elytra as 3.3 multiplies a long flight by ten.
Does the Swiftness potion help every method?
No. It only affects the player walking or sprinting, not elytra, minecarts, boats or horses. So with a vehicle selected, the potion level will not change the time.
What is the "in game days" figure?
One game day is 20 real minutes, or 24000 game ticks. The real seconds of travel divided by 1200 give the equivalent in game days. Speed itself is defined in real time; this just restates the result in game time for comparison.
