This tool queries the network: your input goes to third-party services, never through this site’s servers

Translation

Paste your text, pick the languages and hit Translate. Your text is sent to a third-party translation service — the note under the page title says so, and it is worth reading before translating anything confidential on a shared computer. Two ways to use it: · Nothing to sign up for: it uses MyMemory’s free endpoint out of the box. The anonymous quota is counted per day (a few thousand characters); when it runs out you get told clearly rather than handed something unreadable. · Bring your own key: choose Azure Translator and enter a subscription key (plus a region for a multi-service resource). The key is kept in this browser only — it is never uploaded, because this site has no server at all. The source language can be set to detect automatically, and the language it found is reported afterwards. Why no DeepL? Because its API does not allow browser calls — the cross-origin preflight comes back without permission, so a key would not help. Only services verified to work from a browser are listed here; offering one that cannot connect just makes people keep checking their key. Long text is split at sentence boundaries, translated piece by piece and rejoined (the free endpoint allows 500 characters per request), and the result says how many requests were made.

Features

  • 12 languages: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic
  • Source language can be detected automatically, and the detected language is reported
  • Free default engine with no sign-up; or bring your own Azure key
  • The key stays in your browser and is never uploaded
  • Long text is split at sentence boundaries and rejoins to the same characters
  • One click to swap the source and target languages
  • Ctrl / Cmd + Enter to translate
  • Other candidate translations from MyMemory, up to three
  • Tells you how many requests and characters this translation used
  • Unreachable service, exhausted quota and a bad key are each reported clearly — upstream error text is never shown as if it were a translation

How to use

  1. Pick an engine: the free default, or your own key
  2. Pick the source (auto-detect is fine) and target languages
  3. Paste the text you want translated
  4. Press Translate, or Ctrl / Cmd + Enter
  5. The translation appears on the right with a copy button; below it are other candidates and the usage for this run

FAQ

Who sees my text?
The translation service you picked (MyMemory or Azure). It does not pass through this site — there is no server here to see it. But the text does leave your device, so please do not translate anything confidential with an online tool.
Why does the free engine say the quota is used up?
MyMemory counts its anonymous quota per day (a few thousand characters) and tells you plainly when it runs out rather than returning something odd. It resets the next day. If you use this often, enter your own Azure key — Azure includes a generous free tier each month.
Why is there no DeepL or Google Translate?
Both were checked. DeepL’s API does not permit browser calls — its cross-origin preflight returns no permission, so the browser blocks it even with a valid key. Google Cloud Translation could not be verified from the build environment, so it is not listed. Only engines that were verified to work in a browser are offered.
Where is the key stored, and is that safe?
In your browser’s localStorage, on this device only. It is never uploaded (there is no server here). Still, avoid saving a key on a shared computer, and clear your browser data when you are done.
Why can I not translate between Simplified and Traditional Chinese?
Machine translation is poor at that conversion and often mixes the two character sets. The Chinese converter on this site does it by lookup table instead of guessing, which is far more accurate.
Does splitting long text alter it?
No. Splitting happens only at sentence punctuation — periods, question marks, exclamation marks and newlines, in either script — and the pieces rejoin to exactly the original characters. There is a test for that. Do note that translating piece by piece cannot optimise word order across sentences, so for very long documents translate in paragraphs.
