Wi-Fi Password Generator

Generators

Output

Set a good Wi-Fi password and let guests join by scanning a code. This tool generates WPA2 passwords of 8 to 63 characters — the range routers actually accept — with a choice of letters and digits, symbols, or a readable mode that joins words from a list with digits, handy for reading out loud. Every password comes with a QR payload string (like WIFI:T:WPA;S:network;P:password;H:false;;) that you can paste into any QR code generator. Semicolons, colons and other special characters in the SSID or password are escaped, so a single semicolon will not break the scan. Lengths above 63 are refused with an explanation. Everything runs in your browser.

Features

  • Passwords of 8 to 63 characters, matching the WPA2 PSK length
  • Character set: letters and digits, with symbols, or readable words plus digits
  • Optionally exclude look-alike characters O, 0, I, l and 1
  • Generate 1 to 10 at a time
  • An entropy estimate and a common-password check for each
  • A QR payload string ready to turn into a scannable code
  • Escapes backslash, semicolon, comma, colon and double quote in the payload
  • Refuses anything past 63 characters with a clear reason

How to use

  1. Set the password length (8–63)
  2. Choose a character set or the readable mode
  3. Optionally exclude look-alikes, and set the count and network name
  4. Passwords, entropy estimates and QR payloads appear immediately

FAQ

Why is 63 the maximum?
The WPA2 PSK accepts 8 to 63 ASCII characters, or 64 hex characters. Routers reject anything longer, so this refuses rather than generating a password that will not fit.
What is the QR payload?
A string a phone camera understands, of the form WIFI:T:WPA;S:network;P:password;H:false;;. Paste it into any QR code generator and guests can join by scanning, instead of typing the password.
Why do semicolons need escaping?
The payload uses semicolons between fields and colons between key and value. A semicolon inside the SSID (say Cafe; Guest) would shift every following field and break the scan. The rule is to put a backslash before backslash, semicolon, comma, colon and double quote.
How strong is the readable mode?
It joins words from a list with digits, which is easy to read out loud but a little weaker than fully random characters at the same length; the tool reports the entropy estimate honestly so you can weigh it.
