Typing Speed Test (WPM / CPM / Accuracy)
MediaEverything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded
⚠️ WPM is **correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes** (five characters count as one “word”), not words split by spaces; **Chinese has no words**, so that mode shows CPM and accuracy only. Timing runs from your first keystroke to your latest, so pausing freezes the reading.
Measure your typing speed: common English words, Chinese sentences, or paste your own text. The screen shows WPM, CPM, accuracy and progress live, and mistakes are highlighted as you type. Three conventions up front. First, WPM is not words split by spaces: the usual definition is `(correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes`, counting five characters as one "word", so spaces count too. Second, Chinese has no words, so that definition does not apply — the Chinese mode shows CPM (characters per minute) and accuracy only, and not WPM. Third, the clock runs from your first keystroke to your latest, not up to "now" — so if you stop for a moment the reading freezes rather than being dragged down. The word lists live in the page (200 common English words, 30 common Chinese sentences), everything runs on your machine, and nothing is sent or recorded.
Features
- Two built-in modes: 200 common English words and 30 common Chinese sentences
- Or paste your own text
- WPM and CPM update live (the Chinese mode shows CPM only)
- Accuracy counts how many of the characters typed so far are correct
- Mistakes are highlighted on the spot, with a marker on the current position
- A progress bar shows how far through you are
- The clock runs from the first keystroke to the latest, so pausing does not move it
- IME composition is not counted as a mistake — only the committed text is compared
- The WPM definition is printed on the page: (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes
How to use

FAQ
- How is WPM calculated?
- `(correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes` — five characters count as one "word". That is the standard typing-test definition and it lets long and short words be compared; it is not a count of space-separated words. Spaces therefore count as characters too.
- Why is there no WPM in the Chinese mode?
- Because Chinese has no "word" unit — counting words by spaces does not apply, and the five-characters-per-word figure is not meaningful for Chinese either. So that mode shows CPM (characters per minute) and accuracy only, with the definition printed on the page.
- How is the timer calculated? Does it keep running when I stop?
- It is the span from your first keystroke to your latest, not up to "now". So if you pause, the reading freezes and only moves again when you type — otherwise a sip of water would drag your accuracy down, which is not a matter of typing speed.
- Will a Chinese IME be counted wrong?
- No. The composition process (pinyin or zhuyin being edited) is not counted as a mistake; only the text you finally commit is compared character by character.
- Are results recorded?
- No. There is no account and no database here, and the tool writes nothing to browser storage — the result is gone as soon as you leave.
