This is the 1-800-FLOWERS idea: on a phone keypad each digit carries a few letters (2=ABC, 3=DEF … 7=PQRS, 9=WXYZ), so a number can be spelled as a memorable word. Both directions are here: digits → words expands every letter combination (or shows only real words from a small built-in list), and words → digits turns `1-800-FLOWERS` back into `18003569377`. The digits 0 and 1 carry no letters; they are kept as-is and never silently dropped. When the combination count is too large the tool tells you how many there are and stops rather than freezing the tab. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Features

  • Both directions: digits → words and words → digits
  • Mapping mode expands every letter combination, one per row for easy copying
  • Built-in list mode shows only real matching words (e.g. 3569377 = FLOWERS)
  • ⚠️ 0 and 1 carry no letters; they are kept, never silently dropped
  • Above 200 combinations the tool reports the total and stops, so the tab never hangs
  • Words → digits ignores hyphens, brackets and spaces
  • A T9 legend is included so you can check each digit

How to use

  1. Choose the mode: digits → words or words → digits
  2. For digits → words, choose mapping only or the built-in list
  3. Paste the number or word into the box
  4. Use the copy button on a row to take just that result

FAQ

Why do 0 and 1 have no letters?
That is the traditional keypad layout: letters sit on 2–9, 0 usually handles "+" and space, and 1 is generally left clear or given to voicemail. So the 1, 8, 0 and 0 in `1-800-FLOWERS` have no letters to expand into; the tool keeps them as-is rather than dropping them, which would shorten the number.
Why does expansion sometimes say there are too many combinations?
Each digit carries up to four letters, so seven digits already give 4⁷ = 16384 combinations, and a few more digits reaches the millions. The tool counts first and stops above 200, telling you exactly how many there would be, rather than enumerating until the page locks up. The built-in list mode is often more useful at that point.
Can it tell me what word 3569377 is?
In built-in list mode, yes. It ships a small list of common words (FLOWERS = 3569377, PIZZA = 74992 and so on) and finds matching words and their positions inside the digits. The list is deliberately small — it demonstrates the idea, it is not a full dictionary.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The mapping and expansion happen entirely in your browser with no network requests; the number or word never reaches a server.
