Turn one image into the set of icons a site needs. A usable set is at least four files: favicon.ico (16/32/48 packed into one file, used by browser tabs and older browsers), apple-touch-icon.png (180, for iOS home screens), and icon-192.png with icon-512.png (PWA and Android). Missing one shows up as "a blank square on some platform" — usually the one you do not use — so this tool hands over the whole set at once. Non-square images are centre-cropped to square (icons must be square; squeezing distorts them), and when the source is too small for the larger sizes, the result says which ones were upscaled.

Features

  • favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 packed into a standard ICO
  • apple-touch-icon.png (180), icon-192.png and icon-512.png
  • An optional full set adding 24, 64, 96, 128 and 256
  • Non-square images are centre-cropped to square, never distorted
  • Optional white flattening (some platforms render transparency as a black block)
  • A clear note when the source is too small and icons were upscaled
  • Nothing is uploaded — icons are generated in the browser

How to use

  1. Drop an image in (square, or close to it)
  2. Choose the size set, and whether you want the ICO and white flattening
  3. The whole set appears at once
  4. Download them one by one, or use Download all

FAQ

Where do these files go?
Into the site root, referenced from `<head>`: `<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="any">`, `<link rel="icon" type="image/png" sizes="192x192" href="/icon-192.png">`, `<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png">`. The ICO in the root is not optional — when a page declares no icon, browsers ask for `/favicon.ico` anyway.
Why must the icon be square?
Because every platform puts it into a square slot. A non-square image dropped in is stretched; so this tool centre-crops the largest square region instead. That loses the sides (or the top and bottom) but keeps the artwork in proportion.
When should white flattening be on?
When the icon has a transparent background and will be shown on a platform that does not handle transparency. Transparent PNG works in most browsers, but some systems (notably certain Android launchers and older iOS) render the transparent area as a black block. Flattening gives consistent results at the cost of blending into arbitrary backgrounds.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Icons are generated by scaling with the browser's own canvas — the image never leaves the machine, and it works offline.
