HTML5 Video Tag Builder
WebEverything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded
A usable `<video>` is more than a `src`. This tool assembles multiple `<source>` entries (so one video can offer mp4 and webm and the browser picks what it can play), a poster image, a `<track>` subtitle, `preload` and the usual switches into a tag you can paste straight in, and explains each attribute. In particular it warns when autoplay is on but muted is not — modern browsers block autoplay with sound, so that tag looks fine but will usually not play.
Features
- One URL per line becomes one <source> each
- Infer the type from the extension (video/mp4, video/webm and so on)
- Optional width and height; 0 lets the layout decide
- Poster image and a subtitle track
- preload in three modes: none, metadata, auto
- Switches for controls, loop and playsinline
- ⚠️ Warns when autoplay lacks muted and will be blocked
- Attribute values are escaped so a quote cannot close the tag early
How to use
- Type one video URL per line (several lines for several formats)
- Adjust width, poster, preload and the switches
- Tick the subtitle option and give a .vtt URL and language
- Copy the generated tag into your page
FAQ
- Why does autoplay still not play?
- Modern browsers block autoplay with sound. For `autoplay` to work you almost always need `muted` too, and the user turns sound back on. The tool warns you when autoplay is on and muted is off, so you do not ship a tag that will not move.
- Why provide several sources?
- Browsers differ in which codecs they support (Safari favours mp4, Chrome and Firefox also read webm). Offering two formats for the same video lets the browser take the first it can play, widening compatibility. Several lines of input become several `<source>` entries.
- Where does type come from?
- It is inferred from the extension (`.mp4` becomes video/mp4, `.webm` becomes video/webm, and so on). An unrecognised extension omits `type` so the browser decides, rather than guessing one that may be wrong.
